11 am- 12 pm - Exploring Bioscience and Entrepreneurship: This session starts by defining entrepreneurship and will help to identify several bio-entrepreneurial career options. It will also address why it is important to acquire entrepreneurial knowledge, skills, abilities and competencies and ultimately, assist you in creating a plan to acquire education, resources, networks, mentors, experience and social support
11 am – 12 pm - Networking for Scientists: Depending on where one falls on the Myers Briggs test, networking can be seen either as a necessary evil or as a banquet of opportunities. Whether looking for an immediate or future job change, networking is a skill that all can master, including introverts. In this presentation, conventional (and unconventional) steps for how to successfully network will be given, with special attention given to those less likely to embrace it.
3:30 pm– 4:30 pm - Science Communication and Public Engagement Fundamentals: The flagship Science Communication and Public Engagement Fundamentals seminar focuses on the core components of successful public engagement. Participants are introduced to the AAAS public engagement framework, a guide they can apply to all kinds of interactions. Participants learn how to identify a public engagement goal, determine the relevant audience, and craft tailored messages to achieve their goal.
3:30 pm– 4:30 pm - Transitioning into a Non-academic Career: This session explores the skills and best practices for transitioning from an academic environment to one of many non-academic career paths. This course introduces a strategic level of career planning from networking to interviewing, and emphasizes how career planning is an ongoing process fostering professional development throughout your career.
