Individual Career Advising Appointments for Postdoctoral Fellows

A pilot program has been established by the Office for Postdoctoral Affairs to offer individual general career counseling to Harvard postdocs in FAS, the Cambridge professional schools, HSPH, and quad postdocs at HMS. Laura Malisheski, Ph.D., a career development specialist with broad expertise at Harvard and the University of Pennsylvania, will be available on a limited basis to postdoctoral fellows for appointments on Wednesday afternoons in Cambridge and Friday mornings in LMA from the beginning of March through the end of June 2008.

Topic areas for which postdocs may request an appointment include the following:
-- Curriculum vitae/resume review and critique
-- Identification of resources for career and professional development exploration
-- Brainstorming about career possibilities inside and outside academia
-- Consideration of changing career trajectory with associated self-assessment exercises
-- Advising on job search strategies for both academic and nonacademic jobs
-- Follow up conversations for further examination
